Community Education

Concept

Heathcote and surrounding areas is a hub of community engagement and compassionate neighbours. Heathcote Dementia Alliance is proud to acknowledge the region as its home, and works closely with local groups, businesses, and initiatives to shape the community into a dementia-friendly township.

Project Status

Heathcote - 'A caring community'

A DVD and a calendar were produced to help develop pride in the community and copies of the DVD were distributed via local groups. Every resident in Heathcote also received a copy of the calendar in their letterbox.

Heathcote township plan

Heathcote Dementia Alliance played a lead role in the steering group developing the township plan, by ensuring the appropriate town infrastructure for people living with dementia was included.

Heathcote community capacity builders

Initiated and founded in 2015 by Heathcote Health, the purpose of this group is to help spread information, as well as build capability, connection and community in a caring and inclusive environment. Representatives from Heathcote's community groups come together monthly and share lunch and news to cultivate empathy, awareness and knowledge.

Inclusive towns - A city of greater bendigo project

The Heathcote Dementia Alliance team members played a key role in the 'Inclusive Towns' project. The aim of the project was to increase the accessibility of local businesses for people with a disability and dementia in three key areas:

  • Inclusive communication

  • Physical environment

  • Disability/dementia awareness
