2021

  • HDA became incorporated - recognised as a charitable organisation with Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) status
  • Planning commenced on Care Cabins and Respite Tourism
  • Secured funding to engage an architect to design Costerfield House – Living Lab (prototype for care cabins)
  • Planning commenced for the Cluster Community
  • Designed Gilbruk Way – pathway linking the Gilbruk Place Dementia Village to the township. Funding was secured for works and plants were donated
  • Invited to present at the Leading Age Services Australia (LASA) Virtual Home Care Forum on our ‘Bush Inspired’ in-home care model”
  • BE Advice (the founders of the Hogeweyk) secured funding to conduct nine workshops to work with HDA to define guiding principles and develop a business plan – they continue to give ongoing mentoring
  • Invited by La Trobe University to form a partnership to enhance and implement 'Verily Connect' – an online peer support program for dementia carers
  • Secured collaboration partners for Virtual Research Innovation & Education concept
  • Negotiated the use of premises on Heathcote Health Campus to create a Futures Hub
  • Signed Memorandums of Understanding with several innovators/researchers as collaboration partners in creating the Futures Hub
  • A preferred operator was identified by Advance Heathcote Inc for the Gilbruk Place (Dementia Village)
  • A secured lease for land at the hospital for Costerfield House was agreed upon.

2020

  • Ensured that the CoGB Heathcote & District investment prospectus informs the public and the business community of the economic development opportunities, new business, and employment, which will come with the development of Gilbruk Place and the HDA Compassionate Community Care model
  • A team of experts was gathered to assist HDA to build solid foundations. These include; Virtual Research Innovation and Education Hub, Costerfield House
  • Ensured infrastructure and signage to support dementia were included in the new Heathcote Town Plan

2019

  • HDA Inc played a crucial role in the City of Greater Bendigo's ‘Inclusive Towns’ project, increasing the accessibility of local businesses by people with a disability and dementia
  • Dementia Steering Group handed responsibility for securing funding and an operator to Advance Heathcote Inc (a local group responsible for facilitating the community plan) – three members of the Heathcote Dementia Alliance were also Advance Heathcote Committee members and formed part of the six-member working group charged with this responsibility
  • Commissioned a Gilbruk Place animation – an introduction and overview of Gilbruk Place
  • Created a 'Community Living with a Difference' narrative – a 12-page booklet on Living with Dementia in rural areas

2018

  • HDA registered with Dementia Australia and Heathcote and is working towards becoming a Dementia Friendly Community. Two team members have been authorised to conduct Dementia Friends training
  • We trialled intergenerational play with local kindergarten and childcare
  • Formed an Expert Adviser network including local, State and Commonwealth Government. Advice and assistance are provided when required by health organisations, peak bodies, research institutes, primary health, corporate, and training institutions.

2017

  • $150,000 in State government funding was secured, to undertake a ‘proof of concept’ study – signed off by Minister Martin Foley
  • Top 10, Regional Australia Institute's Top 150 Light Bulb moments (Dementia Concept)
  • HDA members visited the CEO of Glenview Community Services (Glenorchy, Tasmania) to discuss the vision for Korongee Dementia Village

2015

  • The President, Sandra Slatter created, created the O’Keefe Challenge (community marathon event), now an annual fundraiser
  • Members visited the Hogeweyk (Wesp Netherlands) and spent two hours with the founders to gain valuable information about setting up a Dementia Village
  • 2015 – 2022: HDA conducted a series of community dementia workshops, community information sessions and presentations to all levels of government

2014

  • Heathcote Health formed a steering group to work on the Dementia Village Concept.
  • A HDA member, as a community representative, created the 'Heathcote - A Caring Community' video, engendering pride into the community, bringing to people's attention to the benefits of living in a rural community
  • A committee member was commissioned by Heathcote Health to create the Heathcote Community Capacity Builders. This group continues to meet every month to share information with community groups and members.
